Top 10 Lake District events in 2010
Most visitors come to the Lake District during the spring and summer, but if you choose to visit in Autumn or winter, there are still plenty of places to visit, and a host of local events. Our top ten Autumn and Winter events include:
1.Eskdale Show - September 25th. This small agricultural show offers plenty of things to see and do, including: childrens sports, fell races, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, hound trails, vintage machinery, crafts and hound and terrier show. You can also see the famous Herdwick sheep which are famous in these parts. For more information, call: 019467 23115.
2.Keswick Rambles - September 25th. Join Keswick Rambles for group walks with experienced local leaders from Easter to October. Come and enjoy some hidden gems as well as the Lake District classics. If you are a keen walker and enjoy the company of a small group you are sure to find kindred spirits on these walks. Individuals, couples and groups are all welcome. 3.Follow in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter - September 29th and the next 4 Wednesdays. Yew Tree Farm is a National Trust hill farm that was originally saved from the threat of developers by Beatrix Potter in 1930 when she purchased it as part of the large Monk Coniston Estate.
Caroline Watson will take you on a leisuerly one hour walk around the farm. Find out about the history of the farm, Beatrix Potter's involvement with it and the Herdwick sheep and belted Galloway cattle who live there.
4.Broughton Beer Festival - October 1st-3rd. If you enjoy a pint or two, this is a great place to visit. A fine selection of real ales and brews from all over the region are featured, plus entertainment and delicious local food. For more information call: 01229 716238.
5.Ambleside Marafun - October 10th. The Ambleside Marafun is an event for teams of 5 runners, and gives people the opportunity to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and the Westmorland General Hospital Cancer Unit Appeal. 6.Buttermere Shepherds Meet and Show - October 16th. Featuring sheep and dog shows, traditional crafts, fell racing, Cumberland and Westmorland Wrestling and, the Beer Tent, this show provides the perfect day out for lovers of the great outdoors. 7.Lakes Motor Cycle Trials - October 16th-17th - Broughton-in-Furness. Whether you are a keen motorcyclist or you enjoy the thrills and spills of the sport from the sidelines, take a trip down to the trials at Broughton. For more information call:01229 716806.
8. Carlisle Fireshow - November 6th. Start: 7.00 pm - Finish approx 7.45 pm.
Bitts Park, Carlisle. Free Admission - donations collected for local charities

9.Keswick Food Fayre and Christmas Lights Switch On -November 19th. Come and taste true Cumbrian fayre in a traditional market setting plus festivities and the Christmas Lights Switch On.
10.Santa Steam Bus Adventure - December 12th, 18th and 19th, 2010 - Broughton in Furness. Each child receives a gift from Santa during this 1.5 hour trip. For more information call: 01229 716115.
