Romantic Walks in the Lake District
Sheriff Walk (round trip approx 40 mins)
You have only to walk out of the front of the hotel, across the road to start an enchanting and romantic woodland walk leading to a footpath beside Lake Windermere and the Steam Boat Museum.
Orrest Head (round trip approx 1 hour)
A leisurely stroll up through Windermere Village, across the main road (A591) you will then see a sign for Orrest Head, follow the road then footpath up the hill through the delightful woods, you will observe the village, lake and fell views as you climb higher until you reach the summit. A magnificent vantage point, one of the best in the Lake District awaits you, fantastic views following the full length of Lake Windermere, fells and mountains with glimpses of the sea toward the Isle Of Man.
Bowness Bay (round trip approx 1 hour)
A perfect stroll down Lake Road, through the bustling village of Bowness which boasts a variety of quality shops, wine bars, a cinema and traditional country inns. Only a few minutes further will bring you to the shores of Lake Windermere at Bowness Bay, where you will find boats for hire and steamers to take you on a Lake cruise giving you time to enjoy the outstanding scenery.
Windermere to Amblside via Wansfell (one way approx 4 hours)
The best way to travel between two of the Lake District’s tourist hotspots – Ambleside and Windermere. It certainly beats sitting in a traffic jam on the A591! The route heads past a waterfall, over two small hills and along a river – not bad for a short walk! The routs is 5.53 miles long with an estimated walking time of about 4 hours. It is unsuitable for families with children, prams & pushchairsand wheelchairs. Walking boots are recommended.
